USPA NEWS - The International AI Summit held in Paris on February 10-11, 2025 focused on three key concepts: openness, inclusion and ethics in the development and use of artificial intelligence. But it was a question of debating during the numerous panel sessions, bringing together eminent experts in Artificial Intelligence but also decision-makers, managers, and politicians from more than 60 countries. "Inclusion" was mentioned at almost every session, whether plenary and/or during workshops on the central stage of the Nave of the Grand Palais.
"This summit highlighted the need to strengthen the diversity of the AI ecosystem. It defined an inclusive, open and multi-stakeholder approach that will enable AI to be ethical, safe, secure, trustworthy and human rights-based, while emphasizing the need and urgency to reduce inequalities and support developing countries in building their capacities in artificial intelligence." EVERYONE CLAIMS TO PLEDGE INCLUSION WITHOUT NEVER NAMING PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
Several dignitaries representing the countries of the South, including the General Director of WTO, Dre Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Mauro Vieira the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, Azali Assoumani President of the Republic of the Comoros and former President of the African Union, the Icelandic founder of Creative Commons Anna Tumadottir, OCED’s General Secretary Mathias Cormann, Hicham Ayouch, Moroccan film director, and many others… But they were reluctant to respond more openly and inclusively to their respective countries, feeling excluded from the accessibility of AI technologies as well as the biases generated by the results of generative AI that did not include certain parts of the world from the start. But no one has ever addressed the subject of disability, from which this minority is de facto excluded from the results generated after generative AI, with the absence of even an avatar representing disabled people to date, as well as from Perplexity, Mid journey, Chat GPT from Open AI, CapGemini, Deep Seek, and even the French Mistral....
The discussions of inclusion do not seem to "include" from the outset the biases concerning disabled people. Moreover, among the few stands (a dozen) sponsored by the Paris Peace Forum were highly selected by the organization of the AI ACTION SUMMIT, none had been dedicated to disability. The irony of the situation is that February 11 coincided with the celebration of the 20th anniversary of the law called "Disability Law of February 11, 2005" the same day that the AI Action Summit was held at the Grand Palais and the Elysee Palace and the Business Day at Station F. this law is the most advanced in the world protecting "did not deign to be celebrated and taken into account in this international summit of Artificial Intelligence advocating inclusion in a very paradoxical way by this absence linked to disability.
This is why our disabled reporter/correspondent in a wheelchair was able to collect the comments of several decision-makers, stakeholders, leaders around this same theme of inclusion versus AI. We shall shortly publish them over the next clips…To be continued
